And the rest of my journal will have to wait until I've had some sleep, finished post-processing the shots I should have sent out Friday, and got my shit together enough to actually write it!

*sigh*

Once again: Thankyou to all those who watch me, drop by or take a look as you pass on by.

You all rock!

The drought is broken...

Weather-wise, we in Auckland, could have done with one! It’s been a long, wet, winter. Completely missing out autumn entirely. In New Zealand it went straight from a reasonable summer to bitter and wet winter conditions without skipping a beat. Most notably with a massive hailstorm in Tauranga that buried the beachfront at Mount Maunganui under inches of ice! Auckland just got near-zero temperatures and loads of rain (with the occasional thunder/lightning storms and an odd tornado/water-spout or two). Combined with the rising cost of everything (during a recession) and it made for a bleak winter. Now, here in spring, its still wet and wild (not the good type either but gale force winds combined with almost constant rain/showers/drizzle....).

Still...
... Summer’s just around the corner and I’ve seen the sun (and blue skies, Good God!) occasionally. And the drought I mentioned broke with my first two shoots since June. Four months!

The sweet Samantha was the one who broke it:

And the Amazing Joceline snapped it like a twig and tossed it over the horizon. And at 6’ 1” is one of the few models I’ve worked with who made ME feel small!

At least one shoot set for November. With 5 more possibles. So fingers crossed!

OH MY GOD! We’re all going to die...!

....No news there then....

Those who have beaten us to it over the last few months include Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. Both of whom I have idolised at one time or another. Farrah: When she was one of the original ‘Angels’. And Michael; whenever he brought something new out. He was truly one of the great talents of the 20th century.

Still: The rest of us have the swine-flu pandemic to look forward to. According to one report we can expect something like 200 people (in New Zealand) to die from the disease or complications arising from it: As opposed to the 400 that die annually from the ‘regular’ flu. I can’t seem to get too excited over that. Go figure....

Healthwise? I had a touch of something. If it WAS the flu it was a 48-hour thing. Seemed more like what my mum said her heart attack was like. But a lot milder (apparently). And minus the years-long battle to gain any form of strength back. So.... I ain’t dead yet. I’m hoping to keep it that way. As Nietzsche said (or should have): What doesn’t kill us weakens us so the next thing will....!

On a more positive note (if you can call it that! Forty years! Good god!): July 20th marked the 40th anniversary of Man first setting foot on the moon. It was good seeing the old footage again. I first saw it five hours after it happened in 1969 (I was 8 - The footage had been beamed live to Australia, recorded and flown by NZ airforce jet to New Zealand....)
Armstrong may have the first for being the first man to set foot on the moon but Aldrin has a couple of significant firsts himself: The first man to take a leak on the moon and the first astronaut to punch out a Moon Landing skeptic. (filmmaker Bart Sibrel confronted Aldrin - then 72 - and his stepdaughter outside a California Hotel and called him a "thief, liar and coward". Buzz punched him in the face. Police and the City Prosecutor declined to file charges.
Oh! and Buzz Lightyear was named after him!

Photographically speaking I’ve had my ups and downs the last 3 months.
I’ve previewed Priya.
My other shoot in May was Janine:

June is the first time ever all the shoots I scheduled actually happened. So I’d count THAT as an ‘up’.

Alua

Peejay

And my second (long-awaited) shoot with Liz

July? Not a single shoot (which would count as a ‘down’. But it’s been wet and miserable most of the month so....

Fingers crossed for August. Sad’e has been making noises about another shoot and THAT could make my whole year!

....Been a crap few months.

March, pretty much, sucked shit through a straw. The good news is I (only just) managed to keep my job. (It’s bad enough when you screw up monumentally! But when your boss (my boss’s boss actually) makes shit up in an attempt to justify firing you....
... Still. My boss (immediate boss) and co-workers all told him he was talking through a hole in his head so he had to back off. Which was cool I suppose. But it definitely made March an interesting time (in the Chinese sense of the word...).

April: I guess was a time of recovery and a revisitation of an old addiction. I bought Command and Conquer 3.
I also managed to win a camera in a (non-photographic) contest in the New Zealand Herald. A Canon IXUS 80 Digital. Not a bad little camera at all. So you can’t say its been all bad. Not by a long shot.

What with one thing or another my time on here has been spotty to say the least.
Coming up on 400 devs to checkout and close to 400 (activity) messages.... Yeah stuff gets by-passed along the way. (Damn I need broadband!)

Managed to get a few shoots in of course. I can’t preview as many as I’ve actually done because there are three I still haven’t got permission to post online.... c'est la vie!
But, at least, here’s

Hannah:

Cheryl:

Sofia:

And Priya:

And on the ‘God I feel old!’ front: Turned 48 today. Don’t feel any older. Which is good, I guess, since I’ve felt like fifty for a couple of years now. When I actually DO hit fifty at least I’ll have had plenty of practice beforehand.

So! All the best in DA-Land!

A third of the month is gone and I still haven’t done my Feb Journal.

Sort of...
...This is, apparently, it.

To excuse myself; I HAVE been busy.

3 shoots in the 7 days spanning the end of last month and beginning of this (the other 4 days being wasted with dayshift) with a total of 6 models....

I’ve been post-processing like mad ever since.
And, with that being said, there hasn’t been a hell of a lot of time for much else:

Shoots for January:
Cheryl:

And Sad’e, Tara and Yolanda:

A short digression (sort of) from my usual format:

Remember: With a couple of exceptions these have all been posted in January (but all :+fav:ed by me in that month).
Basically this is born out of desperation. I try to cut my features for the month down to (approx) 20 images. There’re 20 here alone and I couldn’t figure which ones to cut.

:iconbelieve-hope: Tash (always a source of delight and beauty and, definitely, fun has taken the 365 self-portrait challenge this year (ie. She will attempt to post 365 self-portraits. If you’re a fan of this stunning photographer/model (and I most definitely am that). It’s like Christmas every freaking day.

:iconjennipenny: Jenni: I’m in awe of Jenni both as a, quite spectacular, model and as a, seriously impressive, photographer. Her body of work is just stunning.

:iconplastikstars: Rachel has gone off the charts with her submissions of late. Check out her flickr [link] . They seem to get the honour of most her posts of late (Some show up on DA a few days later). I check it every couple of days to see what eye-popping image has been posted since my last visit. She’s definitely hit another gear this year. Pummeled the bugger into the ground in fact:
