posted a journal recently asking 'Why do you live there?' And challenged me (not personally but… ) to follow suit.
On a side note I’m dedicating this journal to She’s in a dark place right now and if there was ever a person who doesn’t deserve to be its her. So drop by and send her some DA
First of all I’m bending the rules a little:
Why I live here is because of my family and friends and I’ve lived here most of my life and work and…. You get the picture.
Some of the reasons I LOVE living here: Now there’s a photo op if ever I heard one!
This is a couple of shots around Lake Pupuke.
The first features the Pump House that supplied water to Devonport from 1884 to 1944. Its now an open air theatre (among other things – featured in my last shoot with Karina).
What’s interesting about the lake? Apart from the fact that its pretty I mean? It sits in a volcanic explosion crater formed approximately 140,000 years ago and is one of over 50 (extinct) volcanoes that make up the Auckland region.
A shot of the Auckland Skyline from the Orakei Jetty
(featured in my shoot with Amanda – which I haven’t posted yet ). Auckland City is situated on an isthmus bounded by two harbours (The Waitemata and The Manukau). I can think of 10 beaches (um twenty if you count the West Coast – White sand on the East Coast, Black sand on the West) within easy reach and that’s not counting the various ones on the Islands in the Waitemata Harbour.
Some of the wild-life in Western Springs:
Two shots of some Pukekoes (A native, flightless, bird) and one of a heron.
Western Springs is a park with a lake in its centre bounded by the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) and the Auckland Zoo. Its one of many parks in the Auckland City area. I love green spaces.
These are images of some wildlife and just plain annoying-life a little closer to home.
An unidentified bird in the tree in my (postage-stamp sized) backyard:
,and one of my neighbours’ cat.
I LIKE cats. Honest. But this little bugger is FITH (Fucked In The Head).
And this is an Eastern Rosella (or very colourful flying rat somebody’s introduced into the neighbourhood).
These two shots are taken in the tree in my backyard (What? This IS the South Pacific!). It’s considered a pest and is a native of Australia.
I’d gladly swap it for THESE Australians:
Any one of which, I'm quite sure, would, quite happily, climb my tree so I could take a photo of them in it!
Anyway. That’s a little window into my world. (There are many other reasons why I like living here but these are definitely some of the highlights.). Hope you enjoyed it.
Take care.
